Thousands Left Without Power After Gusts of 110kph Overnight

Thousands of people across the country were left without electricity overnight as strong winds knocked power lines out. According to reports, over 2,400 homes across Munster and Connacht were affected by winds of up to 110km/h. It has been reported that Co Cork town of Carrigaline has been the worst hit, with more than 1,800 customers left without power.

The ESB have stated that they are working extremely hard to get power back to the homes, and has apologised for the loss of supply. The orange wind warning is in effect until 9am this morning. Motorists are being warned to take extra car on the roads this morning as there may be debris and fallen trees on the roads. Met Éireann are also warning that there is a strong possibility of frost and ice tonight as it has been reported that sleet and snow are expected to hit the country later in the week.
