TV3 Win Rights to Broadcast 2015 Rugby World Cup

TV3 have beaten RTÉ in the rights bid to broadcast the 2015 Rugby World Cup in Ireland.

According to the Irish Times, the decision is expected to be announced by the International Rugby Board sometime next week who sell the rights to the four-yearly global tournament.

It’s said that TV3 are more-than-likely to sell some of the games to Setanta Sports, as it did in 2007 and the newspaper speculates that “ne can only presume the IRB was swayed toward TV3 by a bigger financial offer, in what will be a demoralising blow for the national broadcasters”.

The win for TV3 comes after the television station was beaten by Sky Sports to the rights to show GAA Championship games in the summer.
