Vicky Phelan keeping up with her family Christmas traditions post treatment

Ellen Fitzpatrick

What a day.

Vicky Phelan isn’t letting anything stop her from celebrating her family Christmas traditions this year, especially one of the most important.

Feeling just as festive as the rest of the country, Vicky and her family tuned into the Late Late Toy Show, but her traditional way of watching isn’t like most of us.

Making a complete day of it, Vicky watched the show during a family trip to Dublin, going all out for her celebrations.

The campaigner shared photos of herself and her children as they prepared snacks and got festive ready for the show, before showing the surprise she managed to pull off for son Darragh on the day of.

She wrote on Instagram: “Thank you to the wonderful team at the Late Late Show, especially Ian, Yvonne and Maureen, who had two pairs of the much coveted Late Late Toy Show pyjamas AND two LLTS snoodies for me to take home after my appearance on the LLS last Friday night.

“I had to hide them on Darragh until this morning or he would have had them on him during the week! We are here, the 4 of us, in our PJs, munchies divvied out waiting for the Toy Show to start.

“Wishing @instatubridy and all the team who work on the Toy Show the very best of luck with tonight’s show and to all the kids who are performing or reviewing toys and books, have a fabulous time and enjoy the experience.”

Her two children looked delighted to be spending the tradition with their mum, but it wasn’t the only bit of fun the family got up to on Friday.

Before the show started, Vicky shared images of her family enjoying some downtime at Dublin Zoo’s Wild Lights, with Vicky saying how this week marked their official start to Christmas.

She wrote: “And the countdown to Christmas has begun in the Phelan household!

“We put the Christmas tree and the decorations earlier the week in the run-up to what we officially mark as the beginning of Christmas in our house the @LateLateToy Show.

‘To kick things off this year we decided to take the kids to visit the Wild Lights @Dublinzoo_official, we have only heard good things about it and we were not disappointed.”

Only getting tickets the night of the toy show, it prompted the family to spring into action and make a trip to Dublin to really make it feel like Christmas.
