A TV presenter cut off an Islamist scholar live on air after he told her to “shut up” saying it was “beneath him” to be interviewed by a woman.Al-Jadeed presenter Rima Karaki was interviewing London-based Muslim scholar Doctor Hani Al-Siba’i to hear his thoughts on a recent increase of Christians joining Islamic State.
Doctor Hani Al-Siba'I, who was convicted by the Egyptian government of being part of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad group and later fled to the UK, started to stray from the topic when Karaki reminded him that the studio were under time pressure.
Instead of listening to her though, Al-Siba'I argued that it was ‘beneath him’ to be interviewed by a woman – arguing and shouting over the presenter while she tried to keep the interview moving forward.
Breaking across the interruptions, Karaki handled the awkward confrontation in the most professional shut-down way possible.
We’ll let you see for yourself, but this is what they mean by a strong, independent woman.
