He’s going to be ok.

The wife of the taxi driver who managed to escape after a suspected terrorist detonated an explosive device while in his car has said that it is “an utter miracle” and her husband is “lucky to be alive.”

David Perry has since been discharged from hospital after he ran from his vehicle only moments after the car explosion outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Sunday.

His wife Rachel took to Facebook to thank friends and family for their messages about her husband, and gave an update saying he was “extremely sore and just trying to process what’s happened”.

“The explosion happened whilst he was in the car and how he managed to escape is an utter miracle,” she wrote.

“He certainly had some guardian angels looking after him.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that David had acted with “incredible presence of mind and bravery”, with the Mayor of Liverpool praising him for preventing “what could have been an absolutely awful disaster.”

“There are a lot of rumours flying round about him being a hero and locking the passenger inside the car… but the truth of the matter is, he is without a doubt lucky to be alive,” Rachel added.

She thanked the medical staff that looked after her husband and said she prays that “this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

David pulled up in his taxi to the hospital carrying a passenger at around 11:00am on Sunday, as a national two minutes’ silence was due to begin on Remembrance Sunday. The taxi then exploded.

David managed to jump out of the taxi when he noticed the passenger was wearing an explosive device. The passenger was declared dead on the scene.

Counter-terrorism police have since confirmed four men have been arrested and deemed the incident a terrorist attack.

In CCTV footage, the cab can be seen engulfed in smoke with debris flying everywhere, with David running out of the car before being given help.

Though the explosion occurred at the hospital, the male passenger reportedly asked to be dropped off at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral less than a mile away, where 1,200 military personnel, veterans and families of fallen soldiers had gathered for Remembrance Sunday.
