Witness describes the horror following terrorist attack at Berlin Christmas market

Cassie Delaney

An Australian student has spoken about the traumatic scenes she witnesses at the Berlin Christmas markets yesterday.

Trish O’Neill was at the market in Kurfürstendamm, celebrating the last day of classes.

Speaking to ABC, Trisha describes the horror of the moment a truck ploughed into the crowd.

“We sat just behind the stall having a gluhwein and then all of a sudden there was a big boom and the people in front me jumped on top of me,” says the student.

“I just saw this huge black truck speeding through the markets crushing so many people and then all the lights went out and everything was destroyed.”

“I could hear screaming and then we all froze. Then suddenly people started to move and lift all the wreckage off people, trying to help whoever was there.”

Trisha explains that she and her friends were frozen in terror.

“Eventually we had to and there was blood and bodies everywhere,” she continues.

“I never thought I would see something like this in my life,” she said.

“I’m shaking and scared. It all just happened so fast.”

At least 12 people were killed and 50 injured in the suspected terrorist attack yesterday.
