So tragic.

A woman in Mexico has died after she was attacked by a couple who allegedly kidnapped her and cut open her stomach to take her unborn child.

According to Mexican authorities, the alleged attack happened in Mexico’s eastern state of Veracruz on November 30th where a woman, who was eight months pregnant at the time, was kidnapped.

Identified as 20 year old Rosa Isela Castro Vazquez by federal police, she sadly did not survive the injuries but the baby was “rescued safe and sound and is now receiving attention from the relevant authorities”, the Veracruz attorney general’s office wrote in a statement.

The two alleged attackers, a man and a woman, have been identified only as Gonzalo and Veronica “N.” and now stand accused of kidnapping and femicide.

Local news outlets have reported that the couple used social media messages to lure the woman to a pharmacy near her Veracruz home and had promised to give her hand-me-down baby clothes.

CCTV footage shows Vazquez meeting the suspects outside before she was brought to a car and her body was later discovered the Los Arrieros ranch, according to the Attorney General’s online statement.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Attorney General of Veracruz said: “The State Attorney General’s Office…reports that officials of the Ministerial Police arrested Gonzalo ‘N’ and Veronica ‘N’ as alleged perpetrators of [the kidnapping.]”

Upon their arrest, the statement went on to say they “had a newborn minor with them”, with news outlets reporting that the woman had taken the baby to a local hospital but could not prove that the child was her own.
