A local community in Clondalkin has been left shaken after a woman was set on fire in an arson attack on Tuesday morning.
Gardaí confirmed a woman, believed to be in her 40s, is in a critical condition in hospital after she was set on fire at a house in Clondalkin yesterday morning.
The incident took place at a residential property in the Oak Downs area at around 10 am.
Reports now claim that the woman was not the intended target. It is understood that her partner (49) was the intended target, and the attack may be drug-related.
The male was also injured in the attack, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Residents are said to be in complete shock over the incident.
Speaking about the incident, the Minister for Justice said:
"I am shocked by this morning’s horrific attack on a woman in Clondalkin. I have been briefed on the attack by the Gardaí, and I join with them in appealing to anyone with information to come forward so that the perpetrator of this vicious attack can be brought to justice."
A source close to Gardaí told RTÉ that this was a "horrific and frightening attack."
Sinn Féin's William Carey told Morning Ireland, "The whole estate, the whole area here is in quite a lot of shock."
"Nobody expected anything like this to be happening in our area. It's quite an idyllic type of estate with a lot of hardworking people. To have this happening on the doorstep is completely shocking."
Any persons who were in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9:30 am and 10:20 am this morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
