Manchester Police have confirmed that they are investigating what they are calling a hate incident which allegedly took place on a tram on Tuesday morning.
The incident is believed to have taken place at around 7.40am as many Mancunians were making their morning commute into the city.
A video has emerged online which appears to show a group of teenagers abusing a man with a seemingly North American accent, shouting at him to “go back to Africa” before fellow passengers ask them to get off the tram.
Before they leave, one of them appears to flick a liquid – quite likely beer – at the man from a glass bottle.
As they walk away from the tram, commuters shout telling them they are “a disgrace”.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that they are now investigating the incident, asking any witnesses to come forward with information.
In a statement, Chief Inspector Gareth Parkin labelled the incident “a disgusting display of abuse which quite frankly has no place in society”, before requesting that anyone with information about the incident report it to the police by calling 101, while anyone wishing to report anonymously can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This comes days after other racist incidents have been reported from across the UK in the wake of the heated debate about Brexit.
