Three Cork brides meet again in the same hotel 46 years after their wedding day

Wholesome content.

Every bride’s fear is having another wedding occur in the same venue, at the same time, as yours… right?

Concerns around hotel staff, too many guests, a lack of space, and being able to hear another party’s DJ through the walls are worries that even the chillest of brides must contend with when planning their big day.

But what if there wasn’t just another wedding happening in the same place? What if there was two?

And what if, 46 years later, you all reunited to get a stellar pic in the same spot where you stood all those decades ago?

And what if you didn’t actually mind sharing your wedding day with two other women because the resulting image was simply so iconic that it was actually all OK in the end?

Long story short: the above happened for three Cork brides almost 50 years ago – and yes, the resulting content is wholesome.

Earlier this year, Cork’s Metropole Hotel issued a call to couples who had their wedding reception at the venue over the last 50 years.

They wanted the couples to join their new Wedding Club to celebrate the fact that they had chosen the venue – and lo and behold, three women who had been married on the same day came forward.

The women and their husbands met up recently to chat all about their wedding breakfasts (not dinner), as well as the fact that they all happened to work in Cork’s Sunbeam factory at the time of their marriage.

Two of the brides even stayed in contact after their wedding day after meeting on the 3pm train to Dublin 46 years ago.

They were both headed on honeymoon to Jersey.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response from couples who had their reception at the Metropole Hotel over the years,” said general manager Roger Russell.

“Weddings have changed over the years, going from Wedding Breakfasts for an hour to big affairs with 200 people over the whole day.”

The Wedding Club will celebrate the couples who married in the hotel on Friday.
