Heartbreaking.

Ashley Cain and Safiyya Vorajee have announced they have split up only days before the one year anniversary of the death of their baby daughter Azaylia.

The couple sadly lost their daughter last April when she was only eight months old following a battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Only a few weeks before the year anniversary, the couple revealed they have decided to break up but said they remain “bonded by our powerful journey together” and “the eternal love we have for our daughter.”

Ashley said in an Instagram statement on Wednesday: “After a devastating and heartbreaking year, Safiyya and I decided to separate a few months ago.

“This was an incredibly tough decision which we needed to keep to ourselves for some time to give us the opportunity to figure out our own journey privately.

“The past few months have demonstrated that we remain the closest of friends, spending time together everyday and that we will love, care and support each other forever.

“We are bonded by our powerful journey together, by the eternal love we have for our daughter and our passionate commitment to her foundation.”

Safiyya also commented on the break up on Instagram, saying she was “feeling low” ahead of the split being announced.

The reality TV star and footballer Ashley first shared the news of his daughter’s leukaemia back in October of 2020, revealing she had a “rare and aggressive form of cancer.”

The family had planned to move to Singapore for CAR T-cell therapy, which became no longer feasible given the discovery of their daughter’s tumours.

They later returned home to the UK to make their daughter “as comfortable as possible.”

Announcing her passing on social media, Ashley wrote at the time: “My heart is shattered. You gave my life purpose, my face a smile, filled my heart with love and my soul with pride.

“I can’t put into words my sadness and pain, there aren’t words to describe it. I love you with every ounce of my body and I miss you so much already.

“You made me a better man. You made me the person I’ve always wanted to be. You’ve taught me more in your 8 months than I’ve learned my whole life.

“I don’t know why you’ve been taken away from me and my heart aches in your absence.”
