Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison has revealed that her long blonde hair was criticised as ‘too Hollywood’ by producers after her first appearance on the BBC show.
The BBC presenter told Countryside magazine, that she was surprised that her appearance came into question, after she was told by show bosses that her blonde hair was “too present and too blonde” while presenting the show.
The 37-year old ecologist said how she was told to tone down her look to be “less Hollywood” after her return to the UK following a stint of journalistic work in the US.
After returning with her family to the Cotswolds, where she grew up farming her family’s fruit and vegetables, the mother of two joined the BBC crew having worked on a number of conservation projects worldwide.
Speaking to Countryside magazine, Harrison said the culture change from the US to the UK had taken a while to adjust to, believing the US are far more welcoming:
“It is celebratory over there; they really want you to do well. It’s like over here they would almost rather you were on the edge of a breakdown.”
