Simon Cowell and Gareth Gates are among those paying tribute to him.

After news of his death was announced yesterday, a number of stars have shared tributes to singer and theatre actor Darius Campbell Danesh.

Darius, who grew to fame on Pop Idol, was found unconscious at his home in Minnesota earlier this month. He was 41-years-old.

Since then, various celebrities have paid tribute to him.

In a statement issued to the MailOnline, music mogul Simon Cowell remembered Darius as “charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with”.

“His passing, for someone so young is an absolute tragedy, and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”

Darius’ fellow Pop Idol star Gareth Gates paid tribute to him in a statement shared on Instagram.

It read: “I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken. Darius took me under his wing during our time in Pop Idol, like a big brother; always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend.

“I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room. Goodbye my friend. Forever in my heart.”

Myleene Klass, who appeared alongside Darius in Popstars, shared a throwback photo on Twitter, and wrote: “Back at the very start. RIP Darius. x”

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins described Darius as “hugely enthusiastic, a passionate performer and a proud Scotsman”. She wrote that she has “great memories” of coaching him during his time on Pop Star to Opera Star in 2010.
