Big Brother is synonymous with controversy but this time, they’ve gone a bit too far and massively offended a large portion of their viewers.
As the “celebrities” wandered about the house last night, Renee Graziano could be heard uttering some questionable comments about homosexuality saying:
“I think it’s beautiful because it’s who you are and I think it’s natural,” but then following it with:
“But I think today in society, I think they kind of force things on people and confuse you.”
Christopher Biggins, a very outspoken gay man then chimed in saying “”The worst type I’m afraid to say are the bisexuals. What it is is people not wanting to admit they’re gay.”
Renee, in all her ignorance then exclaimed: “You have to pick a team!”
Are they actually taking the piss? Ignorance is a horrible, horrible thing… #CBB #Biggins Shocked by these two. ? pic.twitter.com/sS0opDsXrr

As the pair laughed, Twitter went into meltdown with users quick to highlight biphobia and the prejudice of the conversation.
I came out as #bi 11 yrs ago and #biphobia on #cbb made me uncomfortable. Frightening that those words would be heard by young people @bbuk

So housemates get punished for discussing nominations but not for saying being bi is sitting on the fence and not picking a team #CBB

Biggins has never spoken well of his own community (LGBT) in many interviews, the whole bi thing is disappointing but I’m not surprised #cbb

Would @bbuk pull someone in for saying “gay” was a choice? No longer team Biggins after saying bi people should pick a side. #cbb #cbbuk

.@onebiggins seriously going down in my estimations there. Disappointed to hear him say he doesn’t believe you can be BI. #CBB

So a gay man can refer to bi-sexual people as ‘the bi-sexuals’ and this is somehow acceptable?! I’m confused. #cbb

Bi-erasure is a THING. And Biggins gets to spout that nonsense unchecked? No thank you. #CBB

Biggins & Renne, I’m bi, you can’t just pick one side, you’re not scared, you just like both! Wish people would understand that! ???? #CBB x

This is not the first time Biggins has made biphobic comments.
In an interview with The Big Issue in 2014 the panto star said:
“I think the people who fear homosexuality most are the ones who could be gay. The world is full of bisexuals because that’s the way they want to do it. What do they do? They ruin a woman’s life.”
“It’s so wrong, because you’re not owning up to what you are. You lead a double life so how can you be a real person?”
Biggins comments perpetuate myths about the bisexual community that are damaging and offensive. If you want to read something much more interesting, check out this piece, written by our stunningly talent bro at JOE.co.uk.
Yes, men can be bisexual too. No, it’s not just a phase… https://t.co/3MwjTLDDkX
