Chrissie Hynde has hit out at the pop stars who have created a “pornography culture.”
The Pretenders singer, who recently caused controversy with her comments about victims of sexual assault, reportedly made the remarks during an interview on BBC’s Woman’s Hour.
The singer has hit out at pop stars.
She said: “I don’t think sexual assault is a gender issue as such, I think it’s very much it’s all around us now.
“It’s provoked by this pornography culture, it’s provoked by pop stars who call themselves feminists.
“Maybe they’re feminists on behalf of prostitutes – but they are no feminists on behalf of music, if they are selling their music by bumping and grinding and wearing their underwear in videos.”
Miley Cyrus is one of the most provocative stars in music.
She continued: “That’s a kind of feminism – but, you know, you’re a sex worker is what you are… I would say those women are responsible for a great deal of damage.”
Last week Chrissie received a great deal of criticism when she said she took “full responsibility” for being subjected to a sexual assault at the age of 21.
