Coronation Street’s Mikey North has denied kissing his co-star Alison King at the National Television Awards last week.

Mikey, who plays Gary Windass, and Alison, whom Corrie fans know as Carla Connor, were reportedly caught in an embrace at the awards ceremony.

A spectator thought to be also attending the event filmed the pair and the video was later obtained by The Sun.

However, Mikey has now released a statement and is keen to make it clear that nothing happened between him and his colleague.

Addressing the fact that this has caused his family great distress, Mikey told OK magazine:

“I would like to make one thing clear: I did not kiss my co-star Alison King during the recent National Television Awards. It is beyond ludicrous to suggest that I would or that I did.”

He went on to say that the recording showed him “speaking into her ear at what was a noisy public event”.

Mikey also said that although his wife is hugely supportive, she should not have to put up with this “baseless gossip”.

The popular actor also said that the incident has caused great upset and he won’t stand back while his personal reputation is tarnished.

Alison is engaged to personal trainer David Stuckley with the romantic proposal happening in Portugal at the end of last summer.

Mikey and his wife Rachel have been married since 2016. They have two children, Archie who was born in 2017 and Eliza, who arrived in September of last year.

Alison has been a regular character on the cobbles since 2006 while Mikey joined Coronation Street in 2008. Both characters are fan favourites.
