Will Craig David take on the role permanently?

Irish TV star Craig Doyle is set to present This Morning following Phillip Schofield’s exit.

He joined Holly Willoughby today and will be on air tomorrow as co-host while ITV bosses work to find a permanent replacement for Schofield.

With Josie Gibson taking the reins on Monday and Tuesday, it appears that bosses are now keen to give the Dubliner a chance at hosting.

The news first emerged last week with Doyle being 5/2 favourite to host the morning show, according to BoyleSports.

Spokesperson for the betting franchise, Lawrence Lyons said: “Craig stood in for Dermot [O’Leary] on the show last week and it seemed to have sparked an interest with viewers who are now betting on him to land the gig.”

Having an Irish TV presenter take on the role, even if it’s just for a while, is very exciting.

But who is Craig Doyle?

Craig Doyle is a 52-year-old Irish broadcaster from Stillorgan in Dublin. He now lives in Wicklow with his wife, Doon Huston Doyle and their four children.

He has enjoyed a lucrative career so far, and has worked across the likes of RTE, ITV, BT Sports and BBC.

After graduating from St Patrick’s College in Maynooth with a Degree in Sociology and History, Craig moved to London to complete a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism.

He started out his career in his local radio station, BBC Radio Suffolk before venturing to ITV where he hosted a children’s show called Disney Club.

In the years that followed, Doyle built an impressive on-air portfolio, presenting across the BBC and BBC Sport.

When he returned to Ireland in the early 2000’s, he created his own production company called Boxer and produced a number of successful shows for the RTE.

He went on to produce and present The Craig Doyle Show, an Irish travel and celebrity programme that did very well on the national station.

Fast forward to 2021, Craig landed his first stint on the famous ITV This Morning couch.

Since then, he’s been a regular replacement for Holly Willoughby and former co-star Phillip Schofield.

Craig is loved by This Morning viewers and is often hailed when hosting alongside Alison Hammond.

Viewers particularly enjoy the duo’s on screen relationship and over the years have taken to social media to share their thoughts.

One wrote on Twitter: “Craig and Alison are a great combo! Love his energy and natural charisma.”

A second said that they’d love to see Craig and Holly host the show permanently.

They wrote: “Nobody, absolutely nobody is a better TV partner for Holly than Craig Doyle. If you can’t see it, there’s something wrong with you.”

Well, it looks like that could be a possibility.
