Irish presenter set to host This Morning with Holly Willoughby

Ellen Fitzpatrick

An Irish TV star is set to present This Morning following Phillip Schofield’s exit.

Craig Doyle will join Holly Willoughby today and tomorrow on the show as co-host while ITV bosses work to find a permanent replacement for Schofield.

With Josie Gibson taking the reins on Monday and Tuesday, it appears that bosses are now keen to give the Dubliner a chance at hosting.

This isn’t the first time Craig has appeared on the show; he filled in only a few weeks ago and received praise for his presenting skills after joining Alison Hammond on the sofa.

Holly Willoughby has returned after two weeks on holiday, and for the first time since Phillip Schofield resigned from ITV.

In her absence, Alison presented the show alongside Dermot O’Leary, who typically present on a Friday. Craig joined Alison on one show as Dermot celebrated his 50th birthday.

This isn’t the first big-time show Craig has fronted as he has previously worked with the BBC, RTÉ and BT Sport.

The Dublin-native had his own chat show on RTE One back in 2010 called Tonight with Craig Doyle as well as RTE Two’s Craig Doyle Live which aired from 2011 to 2013.

Holly has said that she will never “speak publicly” about Phillip Schofield again following the backlash she faced for her This Morning statement.

Sources are now claiming that Holly is still angry with Phillip and has decided that she won’t address the situation publicly again.

“This is the only time Holly will ever speak about Phil and what has happened,” a source told The Sun.

“She still feels incredibly angry and upset by his actions and is very much still trying to get her head around it.

They added: “She is angry and that will take a long time for her to come to terms with.”
