It felt like Rihanna and Drake were the ones that were going to make it. It seemed like they truly loved each other, but right now, they’re not even friends.
If you all remember, Drake confessed his love to the singer at the 2016 VMAs, but it seems that’s what actually broke the couple, because well… Rihanna didn’t like it.
She didn’t like the confessions of love, she didn’t like the attention, and yeah, we get her. It can be awkward (but admittedly lovely) when someone goes up in front of the world and says they’ve been in love with you since they were 22-years-old.
Rihanna is the Vogue cover woman for the magazine’s June issue, and she explained that it just wasn’t meant to be… and that’s fine.
She told the magazine: “The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal. Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.”
And when asked about the current state of their relationship, Rihanna said: “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”
It is what it is. We think we can all agree that some things just aren’t meant to be, and well, life goes on (we won’t admit that our fangirl hearts aren’t breaking a little bit though).
