Eamonn Holmes said some pretty stupid things about Prince on television yesterday

Prince Rogers Nelson passed away last Thursday, and since then there has been a tidal wave of praise and appreciation for the Minneapolis-born musical genius.

Celebrities from Justin Timberlake to Drake have posted tributes to The Purple One on social media, and there have been celebrations around the world in honour of him.

Not everyone is so glowing about the star, though.

Television presenter Eamonn Holmes made some pretty ridiculous comments about the artist on yesterday’s airing of This Morning that raised a few eyebrows.

Speaking to his co-host Ruth Langsford, Holmes explained that he had an issue with Prince:

“I think there was a bit of a problem with Prince.”

What kind of problem Eamonn?

“He was more of a girls’ artist than a boys’ artist. It was the flamboyancy. We find it hard to relate to him because there’s that flamboyancy that you had with David Bowie as well.”

What does this sentence even mean?

We’re very confused. Is he trying to say that music girls like is bad? Or that he doesn’t like Prince as much because he’s not a woman?

What’s wrong with girls liking music anyway?

Why is he gendering MUSIC?

I need to lie down.
