Facebook Is To Get A New Notifications Tab (And We’re Not Sure How To Feel About It)

We're not sure how we feel about this.

Facebook changes a LOT and while change is good, we’re not too sure how we feel about the latest update.

The little red notification sign can be annoying at the best of times, particularly when it’s an invite to play a game you have absolutely no desire to get involved in.

You’re soon to see plenty more of them however as the social media giant is testing a new notifications tab that will give you access to “additional relevant content”.

This basically translates as 1,000 more reasons to refresh Facebook, just in case you’ve missed anything.

The new tab will have eight sections: some are new and others are extensions of features that are already available, for example birthdays.

There will be a new section for events that you have recently joined, topics that are trending on Facebook at the moment and a very snazzy feature that will show you nearby restaurants and bars.

You’ll also be able to see past statuses, life events, local news and friends who are nearby but some of the new notifications will only work if they are turned on (or else the excitement would be too much to deal with).

That’s a lot of new information to get to grips with but you should be able to customise your feed to use what suits you.

Facebook has not yet indicated a time for the roll-out of this new feature but a spokesperson told Mashable: “We are testing an updated notifications tab that adds additional, relevant content about everything that might be helpful to know on a particular day”.
