The life of an X Factor contestant is often short-lived in the spotlight. People eventually move on to the next best thing, usually assorted pick-n-mix cheeses from their local supermarkets.
I often find myself daydreaming about former X Factor contestants, wondering are they daydreaming about me at all. Unlikely. So I’ve done a bit of research into the whereabouts of these chosen ones, to see where life has led them.
Rachel Adedeji
Rachel appeared on series 6 of the show and finished ninth. As the contestant with the absolute best name of all time, I expected big things to happen for Rachel and I was exactly right. Shortly after the series ended, Rachel moved to Kuala Lumpur to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming an alpaca farmer. In the past six years, Rachel has successfully farmed over six alpacas and shows no signs of slowing down. In her spare time, Rachel likes to reminisce about her time on X Factor, alongside her personal favourite alpaca, Simon.
Leona Lewis
It’s unlikely this update is even necessary because Leona has become a household name since she deservedly won the third series of X Factor. Hailed as a national hero, Leona has single-handedly improved the standard of transport around Dublin since she took over from her brother, Daniel Day. Countless commuters sing her praises on a daily basis, describing her as ‘handy’, ‘decent’ and ‘much nicer on the south side’. You go girl!
Ruth Lorenzo
Our Ruth came fifth in the fifth series of X Factor. Five really was her lucky number, until exactly five weeks after her departure from the show when disaster struck and Ruth was involved in a frozen yoghurt accident. Ruth was innocently writing ‘Frozen yoghurt’ on her shopping list when the paper slipped and gave her a deep and potentially life-threatening paper cut. She was rushed to the hospital, ironically 5ive were playing on the radio, and Ruth received exactly five plasters to stop the bleeding. The road to recovery has been long and hard but Ruth is finally getting back to her old self.
The lads came second in the first series and wasted no time in launching their careers as vitamin salesmen. Any doubters soon had their negativity silenced when the guys signed a lucrative deal with a health shop on Wicklow Street. G4 never revealed the monetary value of the deal but it is thought to be well up into the tens of Euro. The boys have since extended their range of vitamins to O’ Connell Street and a quaint little hut in Bangladesh.
Treyc Cohen
Another household name, it was second time lucky for Treyc as she was the wildcard on series 7, finishing in tenth place. Life has most certainly been in the fast lane for Treyc ever since, as she’s gone on the start a family. Blessed with three beautiful children called Mayc, Treyc 2 and Stayc, she’s said that motherhood is by far her second biggest accomplishment in life, after being the ‘Fastest Finger First’ in an episode of Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Unfortunately, Treyc was found to be on finger dexterity enhancing drugs shortly after, which, it transpired, were sold to her by none other than G4.
