While collecting the award, Dec said, “Thank you so much, this is amazing. People said to us on the way tonight, ‘Does it get boring winning awards?’ Of course, it doesn’t! If anything, our gratitude has grown over the years because you never know when you’re going to get it again.”
Shayne Ward took home the award for Best Newcomer, for his role as Aidan Connor in Coronation Street, while Billy Connolly was honoured on the night with a Special Recognition Award.
Downton Abbey got their last ever NTA, picking up the Drama award. Laura Carmichael, who played Lady Edith Crawley, held back the tears as she spoke on stage saying: “It has been the most incredible six years and I will try not to get emotional. Thanks for coming with us on the journey.”
