Speaking to Marie Claire, the actress said: "There is a huge amount of nudity in the film.
"I'll never say 'I'm never doing nudity' because I've already done it, but I thought I might get stuck in a pigeonhole that I would have struggled to get out of."
The actress recently finished filming Terminator Genisys.
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson, who recently announced she was leaving the franchise, was a pulling point for Emilia.
The actress admitted: "I really wanted to work with Sam Taylor-Johnson because she's f**king amazing."
Actress Dakota Johnson went on to play the role.
The film, which starred Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as the BDSM-loving Christian Grey, was a box office hit despite being slammed by critics.
