“I made it very clear to Billy that it was just a friendship thing and that my eyes were only for Luca.”

Love Island star Gemma Owen has given her side of the story after Casa Amor’s Billy Brown claimed that there was more to their relationship than viewers were privy to.

On an interview with Capital FM, Billy claimed that Gemma was flirty with him and suggested that the international dressage rider “got off lightly”.

He said that Gemma’s first words when they met were, “Pull me for a chat if you want.”

On the show, Gemma made it clear that she only had a friendship with Billy, and she maintains that to this day.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Gemma addressed the rumours, saying: “There was a rumour about me and Billy knowing each other before the show, or there was something more [between us] on the show that people didn’t get to see.

“I’d like to set straight that that is not true. I made it very clear to Billy that it was just a friendship thing and that my eyes were only for Luca.”

Gemma went on to finish in second place in the show with Luca Bish, behind Ekin-Su and Davide.

Earlier this week, Gemma revealed that Luca won the seal of approval from her parents after he joined them on their family holiday to Portugal.

Chatting to Brian Dowling and Fionnuala Jones on The Six O’Clock Show, Gemma said: “Family thumbs up, very good. We had a little trip, a bit of work, bit of relaxing, met all of them there. That was really positive and really nice.”

As for making things official, Gemma said that the ball is in his court, although she’s not looking for an extravagant gesture, just “something nice”.

“Let’s just put a label on it,” she said.
