GIRLS Star Admits She Was Disappointed When She Realised She Wasn't Gay
Lena Dunham told a crowd of LGBTQ students that she was disappointed when she realised her heterosexual orientation at a gala in the New York Public Library on Monday.
Addressing the crowd, she noted how attractive the audience was, joking:
“Gay men clean up real good, which is probably why I have dated so many of you".
The Girls writer and actress went on to say how she has always felt 'a strong and emotional connection to members of the LGBTQ community' and thanked her sister for having the bravery to come out:
"It was actually a huge disappointment for me when I came of age and realized that I was sexually attracted to men. So when my sister came out, I thought, ‘Thank God, now someone in this family can truly represent my beliefs and passions.’”
The 27-year old was honoured with the Point Foundation's Horizon Award for her work in championing LGBTQ rights. She was presented the award from co-star Andrew Rannalls, who plays her openly gay ex-boyfriend Elijah in the series.
