Iain Stirling on the reason why the Love Island couples have been breaking up

There have been a lot of Love Island breakups lately.

In the last few weeks alone, three couples from the 2018 series have called it quits.

First, Megan Barton-Hanson announced that it was with “hearts full of sadness” that she confirmed her split from Wes Nelson.

In her lengthy Instagram statement, she insisted she and Wes would stay friends and co-parents to their hamster, Jon Snow.

Then, Kaz Crossley and Josh Denzel revealed they had broken up, saying that things “didn’t go as planned.

And Zara McDermott confirmed on Instagram stories that she and Adam Collard had split, after the pair were said to be “on the rocks.

It led to fans becoming convinced that the couples had all signed six-month contracts to stay together post-show.

And while the series of splits is a bit suspect, we reckon it’s more of a coincidence than anything.

Comedian Iain Stirling, who provides the voice over for the summer series, spoke to Metro about the reason why he thinks so many couples from the 2018 series have called it quits.

He said:

“They’re so young, I’d be the same – when I was 20… you’re not ready for a real relationship.”

He added that he thought the series needed to bring on older contestants who are ready to settle down.
