Nineties pop star Kavana, also known as Anthony Kavanagh, has spoken out about his sexuality for the first time.
The 36-year-old singer, who is taking part in The Big Reunion as part of super-group 5th Story (it also includes Gareth Gates, Dane Bowers, Kenzie and Adam Rickitt), told Now magazine that he is gay.
“Part of me is almost embarrassed it’s taken me so long to publicly say I’m gay. Here I am, aged 36, coming out – what am I doing... I’ve never come out publicly because no-one’s ever asked. It’s become this huge elephant in the room.”
He added: “Part of me wants to say I’m bisexual because I do find women attractive, but I’ve had more intimate relationships with guys. If I change my mind one day, so be it – but right now I’m gay.”
Anthony also admitted that one of his biggest regrets is not telling his mother, who has Alzheimer’s, or father, who passed away in 2009.
He explained: “It’s almost too late to tell my mother now. I don’t think it would do her any favours to let her know.”
