One Direction star Zayn Malik has slammed claims that he had a substance abuse problem which were suggested by Matt Lauer on the Today Show.
The band met the TV host as part of their promotion for their new album Four. Zayn however was not able to accompany his bandmates to the USA and Matt Lauer angered fans when he asked, “There have been rumours of substance abuse, what’s going on?”
Speaking to The Sun, Zayn responded; “I’m really angry and upset by what was said. I was really ill at the weekend, that’s why I couldn’t fly to America.”
A representative for the band told The Mirror; “Zayn was taken ill after recording the Band Aid single at the weekend and was unfortunately not well enough to fly to the USA yesterday. He will join the band for promotion for the new album as soon as he possibly can.”
The accusations have really angered One Direction fans who took to Twitter to vent their fury at Matt Lauer while others wished Zayn a speedy recovery with #GetWellSoonZayn trending on Twitter for most of the day.
