She’s regarded as one of the most talented lyricists currently working in the business, but even Nicki Minaj’s biggest fans might be surprised to see just how personal she gets on new album The Pinkprint.
The 32-year-old dropped her new release on December 15th and one song attracting a lot of attention is All Things Go, in which the rapper opens up about the child she might have had.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Minaj said: “One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it’s something I’ve kept very private”.
Of getting pregnant at 15, Minaj said: “I thought I was going to die.”
“I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.”
In the song, the Superbass hitmaker raps about wishing her child could have grown up with her younger brother Micaiah.
“I want Caiah to go to college just to say we did it
My child with Aaron, would’ve have been 16 any minute
So in some ways I feel like Caiah is the both of them
It’s like he’s Cai’s little angel looking over him”
Nicki went on to tell Rolling Stone she had made the right decision in opting for abortion, but added the choice “haunted me all my life”.
“It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice,” she said.
“I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”
