“Just when you think you’ve composed yourself it hits you like a hurricane.”

Irish influencer Jess Redden has paid tribute to her late father on her first birthday since his passing.

Jess shared a throwback photo of the two of them together on her 25th birthday and spoke about her grief in the caption.

She wrote: “3 years ago today on my 25th birthday.”

Jess explained that since his death, all the “firsts feel impossible”.

“Just when you think you’ve composed yourself it hits you like a hurricane,” she wrote.

She added that she’s been “feeling off” all week, but she reiterated that her feelings are “okay and valid”.

Jess wrote: “There’s no textbook or guide to help you navigate the black hole that is grief.”

The influencer explained that there are some mechanisms that can help in the meantime.

She continued: “My advice so far is to enjoy the good moments as there is still so many to come.”

Jess added that for those experiencing grief, it’s equally important to “give yourself time and space to feel whatever it is you need to feel.”

She then sent her gratitude to those who have shown her support since her father’s passing: “As always, thank you for the love, kindness and support – the worlds needs more of it.”

Jess’ father passed away last September, and since then she has been sharing the reality of her grief with her followers on social media.

Shortly after his passing, Jess shared an Instagram post, calling to normalise the grieving experience.

She wrote: “Losing a parent is not easy, I tried to find support online but grief is something that’s not widely spoken about so to everyone who has lost someone they love – I send all my light and love to you.

“If you can’t cope right now let the people around you do it for you, support is everything.”
