Kate’s Crazy Name Choice: Where Did Bear Blaze Come From?

It wasn't taken from a baby names book - that's for sure.

Her

Kate Winslet has opened up on her reasons for the unique name she gave her newborn son, while speaking on The Ellen Show due to air today.

Speaking to the host, Kate told Ellen how her son’s middle name symbolised how herself and her husband survived a fire on Richard Branson’s Necker Island:

“The house burned down and we survived, but we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with. Bear Blaze.”

So, what about Bear? Well Kate’s children Mia and Joe (from previous relationships) were included in the naming process, nominating the unique name after one of their’s mum’s close childhood friends:

“A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved it. And he was very much a bear. He was everyone’s shoulder to cry on. He was a big bear hug. He was a great figure in my life. And I just had always remembered him, so that’s where it came from.”

The Oscar winner gave birth to Bear Blaze in early December.

We’re not sure it’d top our baby name list, but at least it makes a lot more sense.
