Lyrics from one particular track on Liam's newly released EP hint that Cheryl was the one to call things off and that he held out hope about them staying together.
"How’d we get to lying, crying, always fighting like our lives depend on it?" he sings on Depend On It.
"I’m not ready yet, there’s still a thread left.
"Give it one last go. I need us to try."
Liam told fans earlier this month that he had scrapped a number of new songs over some big changes in his life.
"They felt from another age," he admitted in a tweet.
