“Lots of People Thought I Was Making a Mistake”: Dolly Parton Defends Goddaughter Miley Cyrus
Country legend Dolly Parton has spoken out in support of her goddaughter Miley Cyrus.
When asked by the Sunday Times if she could understand what the 21-year-old was going through, Parton said she did and admitted that the criticism was much the same for her.
“[..] Back in the day, doing my own things my own way, and dressing sexy and showing my cleavage and all that, I got a lot of criticism” she said.
"Lots of people thought I was making a mistake and that I was just trashy, which I was. I did go through that, but I don't give her advice” she added.
Miley Cyrus has been subject to a barrage of disapproval from critics over raunchy performances and attire.
"Everyone has to walk this journey according to their own rules” said Dolly, defending Cyrus. “That's what she's doing. And I lurve her. I've known her daddy (Billy Ray) the many years he's been in the business. I've watched her grow up.
"She's a smart girl. She had to go to extremes to get her point across. I think she got the point across”.
Dolly Parton is set to play at this year’s Glastonbury festival on June 29th.
