Russell Brand has been boasting about kissing Meghan Markle a few years back

No way.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are never far from the headlines since announcing their engagement in November of last year and the latest news is that Meghan has Irish links.

Genealogist Lorna Moloney has been working on this research for weeks and recently discovered that Meghan has links in none other than our very own Galway.

Lorna, who has published the details on Clans and Surnames under the title Meghan Markle Irish Ancestry, explains that Meghan’s Irish ancestry dates way back to Galway woman Mary McCague, possibly her great-great-great-grandmother.

Lorna retrieved this information from the marriage records of Mary’s daughter Hattie and when researching further, a record was found for ‘Mary McCague born in Ballinasloe to William McCague and Brigid Galaher in October, 1829’.

It is believed that Mary McCague became Mary Bird when she married Thomas Bird and they welcomed daughter Hattie when living in Malta in 1866.

If you want to find out more, Lorna has described the research and all of the sources she used to compile the final document here and it’s a very interesting read.
