Meghan Markle’s ex-husband has reportedly scrapped his idea for a TV show about their marriage – after her mum, Doria Ragland, intervened.

Trevor Engelson is said to have been working on a comedy about a man who has to share custody with his ex-wife after she leaves him for a British prince.

The initial pitch for the show reads [via Deadline]:

“Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British Royal family when your wife marries a prince, in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media, is next level.”

While Trevor and Meghan never had any kids together, you can see the clear ties between their story on that of the TV show.

Apparently, the concept came about when Engelson and fellow producer Dan Farah were talking about how difficult it would have been if he and the now-Duchess of Sussex had children together and had to share them with the British family.

And, according to The Sun, the soon-to-be mum wasn’t keen on the idea of the comedy – and was worried about comparisons to her marriage to Prince Harry, or that it would mock their royal romance.

However, it looks like she has no reason to worry anymore as her mum, Doria, is said to have intervened.

According to the publication, the Duchess of Sussex’s mum has maintained a “friendly relationship” with Trevor, and got him to agree to drop the project.

Trevor and Meghan first got together in 2004, long before she shot to fame in the role of Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits.

They wed in Jamaica in September of 2011 but separated in the summer of 2013 and officially divorced the following year.

Meghan began seeing Prince Harry in the summer of 2016.
