Two of the stars of Made In Chelsea have been criticised after turning up a charity event “off their faces” and leaving after an hour.

Spencer Matthews and Jamie Laing were paid £3,000 to attend the event in aid of the Harry Cunningham Trust, which was set up by bereaved mother Niki Cunningham to help sick and dying babies.

The event was also attended by Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh, Hollyoaks star Ashley Taylor Dawson and former X Factor star Luke Friend but while Ms Cunningham praised the other stars as “brilliant” in an interview with The Sun, she slammed the reality stars for their conduct at the event.

“The boys arrived half an hour late and they were off their faces. They had no idea why they were there or what the charity was about. We had 300 guests attend and a lot of them had bought tickets to the event to see them,” she said.

“I had been working on this event since March. It was so upsetting. The event was held in memory of my son. It was so disrespectful. They just didn’t want to be there.”

As well as being paid a fee, the Trust has covered an £85-a-head dinner and a £150 hotel room for Matthews and Laing but the pair left after a brief appearance, saying that they had “filming commitments”.

However, the boys were spotted enjoying drinks at a nearby bar before heading back to London and tweeting a selfie from a first class carriage, with photos later emerging of them leaving a nightclub at 5.30am.

It’s understood that Jamie subsequently emailed Niki saying he was sorry if he has upset the charity but that he believed that their business agreement had been adhered to.

A spokeswoman for Spencer said that he “wasn’t aware it was a charity event” and “had he known he would not have taken any money. He is prepared to pay it back”.
