We doubt the Queen was too impressed.

As fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will know, they started dating back in June 2016 and now two years later, they’re married.

The public interest surrounding the couple’s relationship is intense, to say the least, and given that they stayed out of the limelight at the beginning, people are mad to know all the minor details.

It turns out that Prince Harry broke a royal ‘rule’ when the couple first started dating which is, of course, frowned upon.

In September 2016, the Prince embarked on a tour of the Caribbean and at the end of the two-week stint, he was due to fly back to London from Barbados.

However, he decided against this and flew to Toronto to see Meghan, where she was living at the time.

He made a rather extensive detour to see the former Suits actress and this decision meant he was breaking royal protocol because members of the royal family aren’t meant to mix royal engagements with their personal lives.

According to The Telegraph, back in 2004, the Duke of York was criticised for going on golfing trips while conducting business and afterwards members of the royal family were told not to mix business trips with personal ones.

At the time, a royal spokesperson said:

“Members of the Royal family are entitled to grant-in-aid for official travel, as are their staff and, where capacity permits, other officials.

“They meet their own costs, however, for private travel. In order to avoid confusion, combining private and public engagements in the same trip is actively discouraged”.

So there you go, Prince Harry broke a royal rule, all in the name of love.
