Robert De Niro speaks out as his daughter comes out as trans

Robert De Niro has spoken out about his daughter Airyn

The Hollywood star said he doesn't see what the big deal is because he loves all his children.

He told Variety:

"I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is.

He added, "I love all my children."

Airyn recently spoke to Them about "stepping into this new identity."

She said seeing other trans women come out encouraged her to speak out about her transition.

She explained, "Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success,” she said. “I’m like, ‘You know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me.'"

Airyn added that her parents may not be perfect but they've done so much to support her all her life.

"No parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight. They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible."

De Niro is a father to seven children. He shares Airyn with ex-partner Toukie Smith. Airyn and her brother Julian were born via surrogate in 1995.
