Royal family sources claim they were not contacted by Netflix about Harry & Meghan

The show aired yesterday.

With Harry & Meghan officially appearing on Netflix yesterday, Royal sources are now claiming that the family were not contacted for a right to reply.

Despite the show starting with a statement that the Royal Family did not reply to the streaming service, a senior palace source has insisted that Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and members of the family were not asked for a comment on the show.

A Netflix source claims that the communications offices for the King and the Prince of Wales were contacted in advance and they had been allowed time to react.

The series takes a look at the reason for the Sussexes leaving their posts as senior working royals, with Harry accusing his family of having a “huge level of unconscious bias” while Meghan discusses how she was treated by British media.

A senior source in the royal countered the written statement of “Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series”, which can be seen at the beginning of the first episode.

Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace both confirmed they received an email from a third-party production company from an unknown organisation’s address and admitted they attempted to verify it with Archewell Productions and Netflix but never heard back.

“In the absence of this verification, we were unable to provide any response. The substance of the email we received also did not address the entire series,” a source said.

The first part of Harry & Meghan aired today and it aims to show “the other side” of the challenges the Sussexes have faced since their relationship began.

Speaking in the first episode of the series, Harry took a swipe at some members of the Royal Family, claiming they married someone “who fit the mould” rather than marrying someone they were “destined to be with”.

He said: “I think for so many people in the family, especially the men, there could be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to someone you are destined to be with.

“The difference between making a decision with your head or your heart.”
