RTÉ presenter Maura Derrane has spoken of her joy at the birth of her first son with Fine Gael TD husband John Deasy.
The Today host gave birth to son Cal last night and according to RTÉ News, the couple are delighted with the surprise delivery, which came weeks before Derrane's due date.
“He was born at 9.45pm last night," confirmed the new mum.
“He came early so was weighed six pounds, but he is good and healthy. We are calling him Cal.”
Derrane's co-host Daithí O'Se was among the first to congratulate the couple, saying he was "just delighted" for the couple.
“I was chatting to Maura this morning and she is just in great form. I went to bed early last night and I woke up and saw it on my Twitter feed so I gave her a shout. She is over the moon and she says he looks like John."
