‘She’s so strong’ Chris Hughes breaks down on This Morning discussing Jesy Nelson’s journey

“She just broke down on the phone to me.”

Chris Hughes got quite emotional on This Morning today when discussing girlfriend Jesy Nelson’s strength in the beginning of her career.

Her recent documentary detailed the abuse she suffered in the public eye after she first joined Little Mix. In the film, Jesy admitted that she attempted to take her own life.

Love Island star Chris said that he spoke to Jesy after the documentary aired and that he was astounded by her bravery.

Speaking to Philip Scofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning, he broke down recounting the strength of his girlfriend.

“She rang me a few minutes after the documentary aired and she was just so overwhelmed,” he said. “She just broke down on the phone to me, she’s a strong girl now.”

Chris, comforted by Holly, added that he and Jesy are now very happy together. “I think we both want [to get married],” he said.

“I think we found each other, and we have endless respect for each other, I think that’s why our relationship works.

“We’re proper family people, we love each other’s family (…) I’m ready to settle down and I think she is.”

Chris also spoke briefly about his brother’s recent testicular cancer diagnosis, and how he discover that he was unwell after a segment Chris did on self check on TV.

“It was quite a sizeable lump so the cancer was quite big, but he’s on the mend,” he said.

“He’s got a prosthetic in now so he’s got two testicles, one fake on the left side, that he’s very happy with.”
