Kelly Clarkson body shaming

Iconic.

Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to experiencing body shaming online.

Since the beginning of her career on American Idol, the singer and mum of two has had to deal with people commenting on her weight and yesterday was no exception.

After tweeting a message thanking everybody who fought to achieve independence in America, a user decided to respond saying “you’re fat.”

The response received a lot of backlash from Clarkson’s fans, but it was Kelly herself who gave the best comeback.

Quote tweeting the message in question, the Idol star said “…and still f–king awesome” followed by a tongue winky emoji.

Kelly’s comeback was praised by her fans who responded with gifs, memes, and a few fire comebacks of their own.

This isn’t the first time that Clarkson has experienced body shaming on Twitter. Back in 2015, Katie Hopkins made some choice comments about the singer’s weight that sent her fans into a frenzy.

However, Clarkson told Ellen DeGeneres afterwards that the comments really hadn’t bothered her that much.

“People are like, ‘I’m so sorry that lady in London was so mean to you.’ And I’m like, ‘Are you serious?’ Like, get in line!”

She did admit that she worried about her fans taking these comments too seriously.

“I think what hurts my feelings for people is when I’ll have a meet and greet after the show and a girl whose, like, bigger than me will be in the meet and greet and be like, ‘Oh, God!’ And they’ll say, ‘If they think you’re big I must be so fat to them.’ It’s like, you just are who you are. We are who we are — whatever size.”

Clarkson’s most recent response was not only on point, but also showed that nobody should have to defend their size to anyone – least of all trolls on the internet.
