The story of how Kate Middleton and Prince William met is adorably awkward

Even the royals are dopes in front of people they fancy.

Ahhh.

2018 has truly been the year of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

The couple tied the knot in May after almost two years of dating and Meghan has cemented her place in the British royal family – and the hearts of the public.

But before she came along, Kate Middleton and Prince William’s relationship was an obsession for fans of the royals.

The pair met when living in the same residence hall at St Andrew’s University in Scotland in the early 2000s and had zero chill when they were first introduced.

Kate is said to have curtsied to her future husband (the appropriate greeting for a woman meeting a royal) and William responded by spilling a drink on himself. Smooth.

“I actually went bright red when I met you and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you,” Kate later said in their engagement interview in 2010.

They got to know one another as friends before officially becoming an item, she continued.

“William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there from Fresher’s Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other

“But we did become very close friends from quite early on.”

The pair actually split up in 2007, having not seen much of each other over the 2006 Christmas break.

William left London to join a new army regiment in Dorset the day before Kate’s birthday, January 9.

The distance between them made it more difficult for them to spend time together and cracks began to show.

They broke up in April 2007 but were reunited in June of that year.
