There was a sweet (and subtle) tribute to Meghan Markle in the new season of Suits

She may have left the series.

But that doesn’t mean that Meghan Markle’s former Suits co-stars have stopped thinking about her – as evidenced by the first few episodes of season eight.

The Duchess of Sussex played former paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons on the legal drama before leaving alongside Patrick J. Adams, who played her on-screen husband Mike Ross, at the end of last year.

Suits returned for its eighth season last month, with fans intrigued to see how it would address the departures – if at all.

While the on-screen couple were referenced outright multiple times in the premiere, there was another – more subtle – nod to the newest member of the royal family in the second episode.

Sarah Rafferty, who plays Rachel’s on-screen BFF Donna Paulson, paid a sweet tribute to the former actress with her choice of outfits.

Well known for her envy-inducing wardrobe on the show, Donna was seen wearing the absolutely stunning navy draped Barwick dress by Roland Mouret.

Which will look awfully familiar to fans of the royal family, as it is the same dress Meghan wore the day before her wedding – as she and her mum, Doria Ragland, arrived at Cliveden House.

The cast were always incredibly close from their time filming in Toronto – which was evidenced by the fact that so many of them had been invited to the royal wedding in May.

And we’d imagine it won’t be the last time there’s a reference to Meghan or Patrick.
