Kate Middleton’s title will change significantly.

We previously discussed how the Duchess of Cambridge will get a new title when her father-in-law, Prince Charles, becomes king.

However, things will change yet again when her husband Prince William becomes head of state.

When this happens, Kate will be Queen Consort as her husband will then be the King of England.

According to an excerpt from the official royal website, Kate Middleton will receive this title in an official ceremony, similar to the king’s coronation but smaller.

“Unless decided otherwise, a Queen consort is crowned with the King, in a similar but simpler ceremony. If the new Sovereign is a Queen, her consort is not crowned or anointed at the coronation ceremony”.

As per the above, if the roles were reversed and a female member of the royal family was becoming queen, her husband would not automatically become king.

Those who watched The Crown will remember how this played out between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip…he wasn’t very happy about the fact.

Although Prince Charles is first in line to the throne, this hasn’t stopped his son preparing for his future role as king.

Robert Lacey, a historian and consultant for The Crown, spoke to People previously about the subject.

Apparently, the Queen and her grandson have always had a close relationship and she delighted in educating him during his teenage years,

“When William became a teenager, she would have him at Windsor Castle and would open the state boxes and guide him through the papers. It was William’s constitutional education”.
