WATCH: Emma Watson Launched HeForShe Arts Week On International Women’s Day

"The arts have the power to destroy gender stereotypes and biases that make all of us less free"

Her

Favoured actress and feminist activist Emma Watson marked International Women’s Day this week by launching the inaugural HeForShe Arts week, a new initiative from UN Women geared towards leveraging the arts for gender equality.

Taking part in a debate around the role of arts in gender equality, Emma led a panel of ambassadors and UN officials discussing the role of arts in developing a balance in the behaviours, views and cultures that shape women’s rights and issues.

Running from March 8- 15th, arts institutions across New York City will adopt a programme promoting the role of women in the arts – as well as donating a percentage of proceeds to UN Women.

Speaking at the event, Emma said:

“The arts give us license to experience something new, to express ourselves, and to openly question our culture. Join us in creating an equal world where all of our stories can be seen and heard.

“The arts have the power to destroy gender stereotypes and biases that make all of us less free”.
