Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have called it quits on their marriage.

The couple, who wed in 2005, today announced that they are separating after eight years of marriage.

The 36-year-old singer and the Baggage Claim actress revealed the news to People magazine.

In an exclusive statement the couple explained that is was a mutual decision:

“We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”

The pair have ended their eight year marriage.

The hit track ‘Blurred Lines’ catapult Thicke into the spotlight last year. Rumours of strains in the couple’s relationship circulated amid accusations from a woman that the performer had propositioned her at the after party of the MTV VMAs.

The pair, who met when Thicke was just 14, have always been very vocal about their love for each other.

In an interview last July, Thicke told USA Today that pair were still “crazily in love”.

“Some of our individual goals still haven’t been realised… but we have a healthy child. We’re madly, crazily in love. That’s where I was at, and I wanted to celebrate it. Life is pretty good, you know?”

The couple have a 3-year-old son, Julian Fuego, together.
