It’s one of the oldest weight loss programmes on the market, but now Weight Watchers is back in the spotlight following a new endorsement deal with Oprah Winfrey.

The media mogul will buy 10% shares of Weight Watchers International, and as well as joining its board of directors, now plans to act as a personal endorsement for the weight loss brand.

As well as following the programme, the 61-year old billionaire will document her results across her various media channels.

It seems investors have faith in Oprah’s impending success – shares in Weight Watchers surged 84% after the news broke.

Speaking about her decision to partner with the brand, Oprah said:

“Weight Watchers has given me the tools to begin to make the lasting shift that I and so many of us who are struggling with weight have longed for.”

The presenter, who previously revealed she has lost 67lbs as part of her fluctuating weight, has admitted to emotional eating in the past.

In an interview with O magazine, she admitted:

“With all the other things that I know how to do and all the other things that I’m so great at and all the other accomplishments, I can’t believe I’m still talking about weight.

“For me it is not a cosmetic issue. It is an emotional issue. When my engine runs down, my drug of choice is food.”
