5 warm-weather movies on Netflix to distract you from Storm Emma

Close the curtains.

With the Beast from the East running wild outside, many have been given the green light to stay at home for the day. Yes, the weather has meant many of us are cooped up at home for the next 24 hours with nothing better to do than look out the window at the mounting snow.

Well, if you’re looking for a bit of a distraction from Storm Emma, then a good film is always a strong bet. However, while weather disaster movies might be the first thing that comes to mind, we really don’t want to bring the storm inside.

Yes, we’re taking a look ahead to the brighter months in the form of five titles that are all about summer.

So, close the curtains, grab a cup of tea and chose which one of these summer titles you’re going to spend your snow day watching.

 

1. Mamma Mia

Plot: On the Greek isle of Kalokairi, a single mom goes into a tizzy when her bride-to-be daughter invites three of Mom’s ex-lovers to the wedding.

 

2. Wet Hot American Summer

Plot: Everyone wants a final shot at the action on the last day at Camp Firewood, in this campy 1980s summer-camp spoof from the creators of The State.

 

3. Staten Island Summer

Plot: Saturday Night Live alumni in front of and behind the camera distinguish this hilarious tale of lifeguards planning the ultimate summer bash.

 

4. Rip Tide

Plot: Following an embarrassing viral video, a New York model decides to escape from her suffocating existence by visiting her faraway aunt in Australia.

 

5. Dear John

Plot: While on leave, a U.S. soldier falls for a Southern college student, but when he must reenlist, their handwritten letters hold the lovers together.
